With rising energy cost, the amount of money you pay to the utility company is expected to rise. To overcome this issue, many home owners are exploring the idea of using alternative energy such as solar and wind power to reduce their home energy consumption. Two of the top guides on residential renewable energy are Green DIY Energy and Energy2Green?. Are the manuals any good? Do they delivery? Check out our reviews of the guides below and then make your decision.

How do I use wind power from home?

Wind energy is the energy produced by wind, one of the first renewable energy used by man. From early in the history of mankind, the wind was used as an energy source (motor for boats or windmills pumping water or grinding). Today we explore its use to produce electricity.

Basically, wind energy is used in homes for the production of electricity. The wind turbines for the home are called Small wind turbines, as wind turbines consist of low power (1-50W) and consequently reduced size of the rotor blades (order of meters) and towers with heights of less than 30 meters (a growing number of experiences DIY wind turbines manufactured in house by non-experts axions). The law that allowed the spread of Small wind turbines generators for individual users is the Legislative Decree No.387 of 29.12.2003. This law provides that any facility producing electricity from renewable sources, with a capacity below 20 kW, has the opportunity to connect to the network in order to exchange with the manager of the same energy, so as to compensate for each year that provided with therefore minimize the power consumed and not cancel if the cost of the bill. This also avoids the use of energy storage devices to complex maintenance such as batteries. A Small wind turbines for home, be it horizontal or vertical axis, is always composed of a rotor with one or more blades that converts the kinetic energy of wind movement of the shaft, a generator, a battery pack or if a network connection inverter AC / DC to transform the electricity produced and adapted to the characteristics of the distribution network. Factors influencing the design of a mini-eolic home generator are multiple dimensions depending on available space, required energy, noise, environmental impact, and are all properly tested to maximize performance and correct operation. Insights on: Use wind power home wind power or wind power home.

It's probably hard to understand the capabilities of electric generation equipment, but perhaps with a small example may be clearer. That a turbine has a power of 2 kW in one hour means that can generate at most that amount of energy (2 kWh). This energy would reach for example to keep 20 bulbs of 100 W burn to an hour (of course we hope none of you have these in your house!). According to the National Energy Commission, the average consumption of electricity in Chile is 3080 [kWh] (2005), thus making a simple calculation, we would need this turbine will operate at maximum capacity for 4 hours daily throughout the year to supply all our needs, which seems so impossible right?.

With the Energy2Green manual you have 2 options: You can either make a wind generator or a solar array to harness free energy from nature.

You can choose the system that suits your weather climate. If you live in a sunny area, you should opt for solar power system. If you live in a less sunny place, Energy2Green wind energy section will show you how to harness the power of the wind with homemade wind turbines.

Creator did an excellent job on the manual describing the background concepts of residential solar and wind power systems without bogging down the reader with unnecessary electrical or other technical theories. Everything included in the manual seems to exist only to make building the project a little easier.

The Verdict: Since the Energy2Green is also offered at $49.97, it serves as a good alternative to the Green DIY Energy manual.
